Earliest Known Hildred Ancestors: married Margaret Snowden at Manby, Lincs in 1685. Their second son Edward married Mary Fox at Anderby, Lincs in 1718. Descent is via Edward (baptised 1723 Hannah cum Hagnaby, Lincs., m. Susanna [details unknown]), Edward (baptised 1753 Swaby, m. Sarah Stafford 1779 South Thoresby), John (baptised 1781 Tetford, m. Eleanor Crow 1808 Belleau & Aby) to Mary Hildred (baptised 1832 South Thoresby, m. William Hewson 1859 Binbrook). See Hewson Pedigree for more.

I believe that John Hildred's bride, Margaret Snowden is the Margaret baptised to Edward Snowden and Anne at manby in 1664 and that Edward Snowden was also baptised in Manby, in 1638 to John Snowden and Francis. However, this is based solely on IGI entries at the moment.

General Information
Hildred is a relatively common Lincolnshire name, known to me from childhood because of the Hildreds Hotel in Skegness (now a shopping precinct).

Fellow Researchers & Family Branches

There are several branches of the Hildred family overseas, notably in America and New Zealand. I am indebted to fellow researchers in these parts for the details of the early Hildreds and also for the numerous cousins detailed on the Family Tree.

Next Steps
1. It would be nice to find the marriage of Edward Hildred and Susanna (c. 1743 - 1753) but it does not appear in the Lincs FHS Marriages index for 1754 - 1812 - or at least, not under the name Hildred!

2. Examine Manby PRs prior to 1679 to confirm the ancestry of Margaret Snowden.
