The Wryneck was not a bird I ever expected to come across. It is not a common bird and looks like a Woodpecker which was short changed in the bill department. We were returning from a Keyhaven walk when this strongly marked bird appeared beside the path then departed to perch low down in a more distant bush.

It was still close enough for good views through the binoculars, but very much at the range limit for my hand-held camera. However, these two pictures were just good enough to confirm what we had seen.
