It was on the way out from Flåm that the Saga Pearl developed technical problems, with the result that we proceeded on one engine, eventually arriving at Jondal in the Hardanger Fjord at 1pm on Wednesday.

So, almost immediately, we were put ashore for our pre-booked trip to the Folgefonn glacier. This involved a coach trip up a winding mountain road which at times seemed slightly narrower than the coach!

These three pictures below were taken at different altitudes. Although the pictures were taken primarily for the views, the colour change with altitude is quite striking.

The glacier is used as a ski school in the Summer. Mary almost forgot that she was using elbow crutches, not ski sticks.

Some of the snow banks seem to have been there for many years.

The Skiers construct stone cairns. Some look random, some do not.

Back on board, we left Jondal and the Hardanger Fjord behind.
