Sealand Diary - January 2007

The elevator was initially built in one piece to ensure good alignment. However, to simplify the task of putting the tail assembly together, a wire joiner was made and test fitted, then the elevators were separated.

This rear view shows the tailplane mounted to the fin and all linkages installed. The maingear has also been temporarily fitted, as has the tailwheel.

For flying off water, both the maingear and tailwheel can be removed (the tailwheel is coupled to the steering rod by the small piece of red heatshrink sleeving visible in the picture). The plan shows a dummy retracted tailwheel serving as a water rudder, so I have kept that option open. However, since I will be using separate speed controllers for the two motors, I hope to set up a differential throttle facility to aid steering on water (and on land, for that matter), so may be able to do without the water rudder. Time will tell.
