P47 Thunderbolt Diary - November 2013

It's fair to say that, so far, this build has been dominated by the issue of the retracts. Because the units were meant for a slightly larger model, the wing had to be made a bit deeper to accommodate them. These first four pictures show that it is still a bit of a squeeze.

The first two pictures in this sequence show the retract being manouvred into position.

Once the retract is in place, the leg can be fitted. The position of the retract can then be finalised so that the wheel enters the well correctly.

Next the hatch can be fitted over the retract and the fairing attached to the leg - another fiddly alignment process.

It was a long job, but it's quite rewarding when it all finally closes up nicely.

This last picture shows the gear door servo. The Z-bend has since been changed since I realised that it would be impossible to assemble the pushrods and servo horn after the wings had been joined!
