Skylarks are often heard singing away above the clifftop but usually only appear as a dot in the sky. Some seven years on from first noticing them though, I was at last lucky enough to find this bird perching obligingly on a fence post. Not only did it stay there long enough for me to get a couple of half-decent pictures, but it also allowed me to grab a video clip of it singing.

After performing its warm up act for the camera, the bird then took off and did a full song flight.

Such energy!
