Welkin Diary - February 2009

The noseblock was built up in situ. I find it easier to get the laminations correctly sized and positioned this way.

The picture on the left shows the setup that oh so nearly produced a complete canopy. I held the plug in a vice and pressed the cutout, with the acetate clipped to the underside, over the plug, whilst playing a heat gun on it.

I think one of the problems was keeping the acetate hot enough. Also the canopy is quite high and narrow, calling for a lot of stretch, so maybe I should have tried a heavier grade of plastic.

The next two pics are before and after shots of the pop bottle attempt (actually a detergent bottle). As you can see, the rear part of the canopy shaped up pretty well but it didn't draw onto the lower windscreen. Again, a slightly larger, different shaped bottle might have worked but by then, I had decided to get the job done professionally.

Not much more to show for this month really.
