Earliest Known Ancestors: (aka John William Hewitt) married Mary Perkins in 1831, at Lenton, Notts. Descent is via William John Geary Hewitt (baptised 1832 St. Peters, Nottingham, m. Sarah Gibbons 1855, Radford, Notts) to Amy Gertrude Hewitt. There are two likely baptisms for Mary Perkins but at the moment I am favouring the daughter of Thomas Perkins and Martha Lockett who married in 1801 at Nottingham St. Mary. See Hewitt pedigree for more.

General Information

William John Hewitt died in August 1840, aged 33. Mary Perkins then married Joseph Payne in August 1841. There are two possible baptisms on the IGI for William Hewitt at Nottingham St. Marys, both of which are listed on the Notts FHS bapitsms CD as Howitt. As yet, I have not been able to view the original records.

Next Steps
A bit of a problem! The Geary name ought to be a good clue but so far I have no idea where it comes from. However, the IGI has a marriage of Robert Hewitt to Sarah Geary at Melbourne Derbyshire 16/12/1771. This also appears on the Leicestershire Strays index, where Robert is from Breedon. This couple would be worth following up as potential grandparents of William John Hewitt, and the originators of the Geary middle name.
