Fauvel AV36 Diary - March 2017

First, as mentioned in the main diary, a few more pictures taken during the covering stage.

The receiver and all the servos are mounted in the wings so all that's left to go in the fuselage is a battery and uBEC. I'll be using 2200mah 3s LiPo batteries and, with eight digital servos to power, opted for a 10a HobbyWing uBEC. This has dual power output feeds which are connected as the wing is fitted and go to the plug banks on either side of the nine channel receiver.

Canopy glue was used to attach the windscreen, followed by the roof section. The joint between the two is a bit rough and the silver trim strip doesn't really do a very good job of hiding it. By now though, I was feeling that the model needs to prove itself in the air before I commit any further effort on this - especially as this simple canopy, whilst representative of the original AV36, is markedly different from what has been fitted to the particular example on which I have based the colour scheme.

Assembling the model in the workshop in order to program the transmitter proved to be a bit of a challenge! However, it was just possible, with an inch or two to spare.

I've mixed a little bit of up aileron in with the brakes in the hope of avoiding any tip stalling risk. However, I have no idea what the effect of the flaps and up aileron will be on the pitch trim so have included elevator compensation, adjustable in flight by means of the otherwise unused throttle trim buttons.

I've also added an option to have both rudders move outwards as the brakes are deployed, on the basis that this should provide quite a bit of extra drag. Time will tell!

More pictures from the final pre-flight photoshoot.

As always, clicking on any picture will open an enlarged version in another window - unless you have pop-ups disabled in your browser!
